Please bare with some of the odd ball things on the site for the time being. I’m in the process of creating a custom CCS for the K2 theme in use. It’s almost there for the most part but I have to update all the old posts so the type is actually legible. I’ve upgraded worpress to v2.6 and added a paypal button if you’d like to make a donation.
Let me begin by apologizing for taking so long between posts. I have a lot going on these days and didn’t think anyone really read the blog, but apparently more people lurk that I know. This blog started as a result of my need to organize evoscan and ecuflash information in a centralized manner.
It became too difficult to keep track of the plethora of threads, private messages, searches and irrelevant post on forums when hunting for information. Now there’s a wiki for evo reflashing, but I’ll still continue to update this blog with things I deem important to reflashing and logging…often times things slip through the cracks and a wiki might not keep up with version updates, bugs and the like.
I’ve had some requests for both the 98640014 w/ 3bar map patch and the RA 90550001 with 3bar + Tephra mod. Unfortunately both roms have issues at this time that need to be sorted. The 3bar patch was made by mrfred of evolutionm and he recently observed a bug which will soon be fixed.
The 90550001 incorporates both mrfreds 3bar patch AND Tephra mods. Tephra pulled down the 90550001 rom a few month back due a bug he discovered. Until he gets a chance to resolve the issue the rom is essentially void of use since it has both bugs - eek.
mrfred should be sending me a replacement for the patched 98640014 soon, although I’m telling you ahead of time I have no time these days to test it out. By the end of the year I’ll be flying back to Trinidad to tune MJR’s evo and will test out both roms. Once the initial testing has worked out with both files I’ll send it post it up for everyone. If you like to live on the edge and want to be a pioneer I can send you the file before it’s tested, but use it at your own risk as I don’t vouch for anything I have yet to test myself. Otherwise, be patient and sit tight…it’ll be here soon enough.
On May 23nd I will be arriving in Heathrow for what will probably the best experience of my life so far. Not only will I be going to pick up a Ferrari F430 Spider with my cousin Wayne, but a Lancer Evolution 8 will be waiting for me as well.
With plans of opening a store i thought it was time to move to a new, more relevant domain. I wanted to separate PWNED from Patrick3D. The old domain will be utilized to as a portfolio site as the domain name originally intended.
cossie1 BarryC over @ MLR is running this clean and functional touchscreen display for his logging/gauge needs in an Evo V:
This is a beautiful way to retain that clean OEM look without a set of ricer gauges all over the place. Last thing I want is my interior looking like Apollo 11. A little more on the setup:
“yep i use a laptop [...] I bought a docking station that I installed underneath the passenger seat and this touch screen (T0701A 7″ In-Dash TFT-LCD Touchscreen VGA Car Monitor). When I go out in the car I just fire the laptop underneath the seat and run a batch file that automatically starts Evoscan loads the gauges and starts the datalogger, real dinky.
The touchscreen has a VGA and usb lead to connect to your laptop and you get the touchscreen drivers on a cd rom so its easy peasy. I can post up a copy of the gauge layouts for anybody that needs them also if ye want a copy of the batch file thats available also.”
At $250-$300 USD it’s not an expensive setup either since you can use it for music and dvds as well. I’d definitely go with a setup like this for days when I need to log alone but keep an eye on important things like AFRs and knock. Something like coolant temp would come in handy during back2back dyno pulls and track days. A laptop just isn’t planted and stable enough to keep an eye on when logging @ WOT. Plus you can hide this away when it’s not being used to keep the interior clean and simple.
“Some evoscan cables have pin 9 and pin 3, mostly for subaru support. Both of these pins interfere with the correct operation of EvoScan AYC and ABS connections and they cause the dashboard lights to flash all the time. To fix this I would highly recommend to break off pins 3 and 9 from your evoscan cable, or disconnect the wires from the car side. AYC and ABS computers on all Mitsubishi vehicles require the ABS/AYC lights to always flash when datalogging.”

I utilized my recently patched 98640014 to modify RA ROM 90550001. Now I have an evo 7 rom capable of logging 2byte load, 2byte rpm, JDM MAP and Tephra v5!
- Removed “Boost Desired Engine Load” #2 and #3, since only #1 matters anymore
- Removed “Base Wastegate Duty” #2 and #3, since only #1 matters anymore
Added Tephra v5 patch which includes:
- 2 levels of knock cel flash
- ICS mods (Inter Cooler Sprayer)
- map switching (timing/fuel/boost)
- no lift to shift
- valet mode
- rear o2 simulator (not heater)
Details
*CEL Flash*
Set two seperate CEL flash parameters based on flash duration and knock count. Keep in mind the Knock CEL flash will still flash if you already have a CEL.
*No Lift to Shift*
Allows you to shift without letting off the throttle - if you do it right it keeps boost up and puts less load on the transmission/driveline.
Enable No Lift to Shift? - Controls whether to enable or disable the NLTS code.
NLTS RPM Drop - When the other conditions are met the ECU will apply a revlimit of ’shift rpm - drop rpm’.
NLTS TPS Threshold - What TPS is required for NLTS to active the revlimit
NLTS Speed Threshold - What is the minimum speed you must be travelling at to enable NLTS - basically allows you to slip the clutch on launch
NLTS Load Threshold - What is the minimum load for NLTS to activate - for the down-shift blippers!
NLTS Testing/Prerequisites
1) Check your TPS extends to 100% when the throttle is flat down, make sure it doesn’t reach 100% before you are at WOT
2) Follow the below test proceedure so you get an idea on how NLTS works
* flash a “test” rom, with speed threshold = 0km/h, load threshold = 0, tps threshold = 20%, rpm drop = 800
* start car, DONT DRIVE, put car in Neutral.
* rev car upto 2000rpm
* put foot on clutch - KEEP FOOT ON GAS
Car should almost stall but then bounce of a revlimit of about 1200rpm
If you do this test you will get an idea of how sensitive your clutch pedal is; a lot of people say they have
problems, most problems come from the super sensitive clutch pedal by resting you foot ready to shift.
* Alternate Maps *
Allows you to switch low+high fuel+timing, injector scaling and boost maps (bwgd and bdel) on the fly without reflashing.
Currently there are two methods to switch maps, either by holding down your Auto ICS button for a predefined period of time OR, for EVO’s without ICS, wiring up a switch to a spare input channel.
Obviously you need to configure your “alternate maps” with the settings you want. Don’t forget to configure which switching method you want (Enable Alternate Maps Master? ADC0F=1, AutoICS=2).
* Various ICS mods * (Only applies to ICS equipped Evo’s)
Restore ICS State on Ignition? - Sick of AutoICS being turned off when you turn the car off?
Enable Manual ICS Linger? - Dont want to hold down the manual button?
Manual ICS Linger Time - How long to keep spraying after you release the manual button - dont set this too high or you will burn your pump out.
Enable Spray ICS on Knock? - Pretty obvious, only works when AutoICS is “on”
KnockSum Required for Spray - Ditto
Load Required for Spray on Knock - Ditto
Spray on Knock time - Ditto
* Enable RearO2 Simulator? *
This replaces the input of the Rear02 with a software simulator, you still need to have the heater circuit
connected but it allows you to wireup something *else* (WBO2??) to it.
*Valet Mode*
So you want to let someone else drive the car but you are worried they will flog it, just hold down the throttle @ 100% (while the IGN is ON, but the car is OFF) to toggle valet mode.
Essentially you get a lowered revlimiter, you can set it too whatever you want.
Auto Valet mode means it automatically does the revlimiter on “fresh ignition” this is good for thieves - set the limit to 0 and the car wont start.
I was over at MLR checking out the ecu section when I noticed user “cossie1″ (CP9A RS2) posted about his 6-7 ecu swap. Apparently in order to swap over an evo7 ecu in a 6 you need do only the following:
-
Swap pins 32 and 34 around
-
connect pin 20 to 32
-
connect pin 21 to pin 34 (after they have been swapped over)
-
disconnect pin 87
What’s also noteworthy is the you can apparently run roms of any type within the same model. So if you are running an evo7 ecu, you can run any of the 7 roms safely. Great news that I had previously been skeptical to try myself based on the conflicting information I received from various forums.
